Congratulations to students from South High School who received the Academic Award during the 2013 recognition ceremony!

In addition to numerous DGS Fine Arts students receiving awards for Academic achievement, several DGS Fine Arts students performed as part of the ceremony.  Senior Mara Alvarez sang the National Anthem to begin the event.  During the course of the awards ceremony, senior cellist Andrew Molina performed a movement of a Rachmaninoff concerto, and senior bassoonist Rachel Wydra performed a movement of a von Weber bassoon concerto.  Both students displayed why they were All-State musicians as juniors, and added an artistic dignity to the event that was impressive.

Engage in Something New

Today North High students were encouraged to “be engaged” in activities outside of the classroom. As part of their monthly “Positively North” lesson, students learned about the many extracurricular opportunities available at the school. The first “Fall Activities and Athletics Fair” was held for students to learn more about all of the activities that are available at the school.

Five District 99 Students Named 2014 National Merit Semifinalists!

Five students at Community High School District 99 have been designated as semifinalists in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Service celebration and teacher inservice days

North High and South High staff gathered yesterday at North High for an all-district celebration of those who have worked with us for a decade or longer. Staff members who've been with the district 10, 15, 20, 25, 30--and even 35 years--were all recognized!

In addition, the teacher inservice (held yesterday and today) sessions have included information about Common Core State Standards, teacher appraisal information and systems of support for students.

South High's Rose Gamble and Susan Kuhn were each recognized for 35 years of service--and received a standing ovation!

Staff gather in the cafeteria before the morning meeting begins and enjoys the District 99 band performance!
